Sky & Earth Support
Need help? Write to joseanquiles@gmail.com. Tell us which device and iOS version you use and, if you can, attach a screenshot. We answer in English or Spanish.
What is Sky & Earth
An augmented reality guide to everything around you. Point your iPhone or iPad in any direction and the app draws over the camera image what lies that way: the Sun, the Moon, the planets, stars, constellations, galaxies and satellites in the sky, and cities, mountains, places of interest and aircraft on the horizon. It also has a compass, astronomical data, the sky events of the coming months and alerts.
In the app, the «?» button on the main screen opens a complete help, screen by screen, and the hand button shows the welcome guide again.
Frequently asked questions
The names do not match what I see
It is usually the device's compass. Move the phone in a figure of eight for a few seconds, away from magnets, metal cases and speakers. If the drawing is always turned by the same amount, go to Settings › North and use «Calibrate with the Moon or the Sun»: centre the Moon, the Sun, Venus or Jupiter in the crosshair and tap the button. You can also adjust the correction by hand.
No objects appear, or there is a location warning
The app needs your location to know what is around you. Turn it on in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Sky & Earth › «While Using the App».
The augmented reality screen is black
Allow camera access in Settings › Privacy & Security › Camera. Without the camera, the app still draws the sky and the places over a black background.
Does it work offline?
Yes. The sky, stars, cities and mountains are calculated on the device with catalogues included in the app. Places of interest, aircraft, satellites (the first time), terrain, comets, asteroids, the cloud forecast and Wikipedia summaries need a connection.
I do not get the alerts
Turn them on in Settings › Alerts and allow notifications in Settings › Notifications › Sky & Earth. Alerts are scheduled from your last location every time you open the app; those for the ISS cover the next three days, so open it now and then.
How do I save an object as a favourite?
Centre it in the crosshair and tap the pill with its name above the heading, tap the star of its row in Astronomical data, or the star at the top left of its sheet. The list opens with the yellow star on the main screen.
Changing the language or the units
In Settings (the gear on the main screen) you can choose English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese or German, kilometres or miles, and °C or °F.
Privacy
The app has no accounts, advertising or tracking. The details are in the privacy policy.
